On Saturday, 2/6/21 - Skyline Glass & Glazing lost our mascot, friend and beloved dog, Ben.

Benjamin Thomas Maguire, aka BEN ~ 6/11/2013 - 2/6/2021.

On 7/31/13,  Mikayla wanted to see my friend's dog's puppies before she left for ECU the next day.
Somehow, we came home with Ben. For a few hours his name was Bear.

John

woke up in the middle of the night and Ben became his name - after Ben, the bear on Grizzly Adams.
Ben was part of our family for 2,747 days, 91.5 months, 7.5 years. No matter how many days, months or years - it was not long enough.

Ben had his own unique personality -He was very mischievous.

He loved to go for walks. He would always make sure he would take a stuffed animal with him. People would stop their cars and take pictures of him because they thought it was so funny - this big (95 + lbs) German Shepherd would have his stuffed animal.

He loved when "Auntie" would join us for walks. Ben would spot her crossing over to Spellman and would pull John down the sidewalk to meet her.  June had to hold on to a bush, a tree, or a fence because Ben would jump up and give her a hug.

In the morning, he would hear our neighbor Joyce's dogs Tedy and Bruschi and he would go to the back door so he could run over to the fence to bark at his "frenemies".

He loved to play - he would steal a pen, a remote control, or whatever he could to manipulate us to get baby carrots (one of his favorite snacks).

He loved to go to work with John. John would say " Do you want to go to the shop?" and Ben would grab a stuffed animal and head right to the door. He was so excited. He got to go the shop on Wednesday and Thursday last week. He would steal things off of John's desk or  Peter 's to get his carrots. Whenever Peter would step away from his desk, he had to make sure to push everything to the middle.

On the days he did not go to work with John, about 5pm, he would sit on the couch with his chin resting on the back of the couch, looking out the window, waiting for John to come home. When John pulled in, he would get so excited. He would grab his football and head to the back door to go out and play - he did this on Friday evening.

About 1am, early Saturday morning, John woke up and noticed Ben was having a hard time breathing. We brought him to Angell Memorial and there was blood around his heart. Around 3am, Ben had a pericardiocentesis procedure performed to drain the blood. The sack around his heart filled back up around 11am and they performed the same procedure - before 3pm, his heart sack was filled with blood again. He had an Echocardiogram and a Chest X-ray and there were multiple tumors in the area surrounding his heart.

Hemangiosarcoma is a cruel disease and strikes so quickly.

Ben - our hearts are forever broken.

You were one of a kind.

Good morning!!
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are taking some time to rest and relax today.

We have a fun little gratitude exercise for you if you’re up for it. (This could also be great to do with your family - and go around the dinner table and share!)

Grab a pen, a piece of paper, and write down 5 things you’re grateful for.
And then write WHY you are thankful for them.
And as you write, take a moment to really feel the love for all those things! This step is super important and is great for your body AND your mind!

Gratitude allows us to celebrate the present moment and live a more fulfilling life.

In the spirit of the holiday, here are a few things we are  truly grateful for:
  1. We are thankful for our families -  their love, grace, support and their health.
  2.  We are grateful our business started back up after construction being shut down in Boston due to COVID-19.
  3. We are grateful we can help to support those who have struggled this year.
  4. Humor - the ability to laugh and see the funny side of things - laughter brings us so much joy!
We are  sending you heartfelt wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving!
